The Sunday Players Drama Ministry

Ever look at one of our Sunday Players skits and say to yourself "hey..that looks like fun!" or "Wow...that message REALLY hit home.  I wish I could be a part of that!"?

Well now you can!

The Sunday Players is looking for new cast members.  No theatrical experience is required - just a positive attitude, a desire to do well and learn, and a desire to minister the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now, for those of you who are saying "oh, you guys are professionals -  I could NEVER do what you do", read on.

We are NOT professionals.  Many of us had never been on stage before we started with the Sunday Players.  We have been blessed with a good directorial staff consisting of theatrically experienced people with the desire and ability to teach you what you need to know to be an active cast member.

Give it a shot!  Our audiences consist of our friends and co-members of the Pine Castle United Methodist congregation.  This is your chance to experience the excitement and fulfillment of performing for Jesus in a friendly environment.

The Master's House adult drama ministry of Pine Castle United Methodist Church, "The Sunday Players", is a sermon enhancing drama ministry.  The Sunday Players, which began in 1997, brings the gospel to life in an entertaining, non-threatening way.  Christian drama can break through people's defenses and help to prepare their heart for hearing the message the pastor preaches.

If the Lord has given you the gift of creative evangelism through drama, you are invited to join the Sunday Players.  As with any ministry that contributes to the Sunday morning worship service, Sunday Players members must commit to fulfill certain pastoral requirements including:

Membership in Pine Castle United Methodist Church
Regular attendance of weekly services
Living a life of integrity, on-stage and off

So, how much time do you need to devote to this?

Well, here's how it works.  Once a script has been approved we will cast it.  If you're a brand new member and we've never seen you act before, we may ask you to attend the read-through.  This will give us (and you) an idea if a certain part is appropriate for you.

In any event, we generally have a read-through two weeks before the performance.  Our scripts take 10 minutes or less to perform so the read-through session is only about 30 minutes or so.  This is scheduled immediately after the Sunday service in our rehearsal room.

Then on the Tuesday of the week of the Sunday performance we have a full rehearsal from 7PM - 9PM in our rehearsal room at the Master's House.  We ask that all actors have their lines memorized before hand so that we may use this rehearsal to concentrate on blocking (movement), character development, and tech.

Since the skits are short, we usually have an opportunity to run through it several times during the Tuesday rehearsal so that everyone is comfortable with their roles.

If you are new to acting, our experienced actors will work with you and teach you how to memorize your lines, how to move on the platform, and other acting techniques.  Our "C.A.S.T." stands for  "Community", "Accountability", "Support", and "Training".

On the Sunday of the performance, call is 8:30AM at the Master's House sanctuary.  We will have a tech rehearsal.  The service is at 10AM.

If you're interested, just send and email to Michelle Taylor or Jim Poling .  Be sure to include your full name, address, phone number, and email address.

See you on Stage!
